CEREC® CAD/CAM

CEREC_LOGO_SOLID
One of the latest dental tools to appear on the dentistry scene is CEREC®. The CEREC machine is a special computer that acts as a dental restoration tool, allowing your dentist to restore decayed teeth, place dental crowns, remove defective amalgam dental fillings, or place veneers in just one appointment.

The CEREC Procedure

The beauty of a CEREC restoration is just that — its beauty. Unlike unsightly silver dental fillings, CEREC fillings or restorations are made of tooth colored ceramic (porcelain) so they look natural. A CEREC procedure requires less time, less drilling and fewer injections, too. It might sound too good to be true, but if you doubt that such good-looking restorations can be made in your dentist’s office in just three easy steps, CEREC will put some optimism back into those doubts.

Here’s how a typical CEREC procedure goes:

Exam and Preparation — Your dentist examines your teeth, decides on the preparation method and starts prepping your teeth (removing the tooth decay).

Optical Impression — An optical impression (picture) of the prepared tooth is taken.

Restoration Creation — Your dentist uses the CEREC machine to design and create your onlay, inlay, dental crown or veneers, right in the office!

Digital X-Rays

Dr. Susoeff uses the latest in digital x-ray technology. X-rays play an invaluable role in the diagnosis of dental problems since they provide a clear picture for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

There are several ways that you, as the patient, can benefit from this:

  • Reduced exposure to radiation
  • Less waiting time
  • Shorter appointments
  • Involved in co-diagnosis
  • Better understanding of treatment

Panoramic Imaging

PLANMECA_PROMAX_SCARA_3_B53D Scanning(CT) with Planmeca® Promax® 3D- In order to provide a high quality of care, we will take a panoramic x-ray of your upper and lower jaw. This is done using a machine that rotates around you while you sit stationary.

Panoramic imaging gives the dentist a more clear and focused x-ray to diagnose for disease, screen for tumors, and ensure we are treating you to the proper care according to our profession.

Intraoral Camera

While X-rays provide valuable information, they can’t show us everything that is going on in your mouth. Using an intraoral camera – a highly advanced piece of diagnostic equipment, we have the ability to view the entire mouth on a monitor so that we can get a closer look at any potential issues or problems that may arise.

The intraoral camera allows you to see and understand your dental treatment by enabling you to see what the dentist sees inside your mouth.

Sedation Dentistry

Please ask yourself these questions.

  1. Do you suffer from a high amount of anxiety or stress when going to the dentist?
  2. Does this anxiety/stress cause you to avoid seeing your dentist altogether?

If this sounds like you, then you may be a candidate for sedation dentistry. We specialize in treating people like you, who have extreme dental fear and experience a high level of anxiety-no matter what the reason-when visiting their dentist.

At Southwest Smiles, your dentist’s goal is to help you get the dental treatment that you need, while minimizing any emotional trauma. Sedation dentistry is commonly used during such routine procedures as teeth cleaning, check ups and more complicated procedures. By using special dentist supplied sedatives, anxious patients can get the treatment they require. When taken, these sedatives do not put you to sleep but eliminate your anxiety. This helps you to have a comfortable and relaxing experience.

While under sedation, you will be in a deeply relaxed state and will be responsive when spoken to. Your vital signs are monitored throughout the procedure while the dentist completes their work. At the end of the treatment, you will have little or no memory of what was accomplished.

Sedation dentistry is safe, easy and effective. With sedation dentistry, we can preform any dental treatment that you need. The whole goal is to help you achieve your goal of complete dental health.

We offer our patients 2 types of sedation:

  1. Nitrous Oxide
  2. Oral Sedation

Nitrous Oxide

One form of sedation is Nitrous Oxide Gas (laughing gas). Nitrous Oxide Gas is the oldest and most tested form of sedation dentistry. It is especially good for people that have no one that can drive them to and from their dental appointment. If you have never tried Nitrous Oxide, you can try it before you start any treatment. When you use Nitrous Oxide you are awake and can talk with the dentist to tell them if you like it or don’t like it or if he/she needs to adjust it for you to feel comfortable.

Oral Sedation

Medications such as Ativan are becoming the most common form of sedation dentistry today. These pills are taken 1 hour before your appointment. By the time you need to sit in the chair, you will feel very calm and drowsy.

Ativan takes all the fear away. Many people will actually fall asleep during their dental work not being aware of anything that is going on, but will be able to respond to requests by the dentist through out the procedure. Ativan also creates a form of amnesia so you don’t remember much of your visit, gradually reducing your fear of going to the dentist over time as every visit to the dental clinic will not be associated with any fear.

You will need to have someone drive you home when you use Ativan for sedation because it takes longer to wear off than Nitrous Oxide. After your appointment, you will go home and have a wonderful sleep for several hours, waking up refreshed.

Drugs such as Ativan are frequently used either alone or in combination with other pain control methods selected by the dentist.
